“I’ve been online and looked at all the theories and there’s one clue that everyone’s missed. It’s something that Sherlock did that was very out of character, but which nobody has picked up on.” - Steven Moffat

Sherlock has his phone (looks to me like that at least) in his hands there, hiding it cleverly in his coat sleeve most of the times.

Why? That leads to my idea related to quote above from Steven Moffat.

I am referring to the conversation between Sherlock and Jim on the roof. Sherlock is doing something out of character there: He’s asking questions, he seems confused. But only that much to not make Jim suspicious.

Sherlock: But the rhythm …

Jim: Partita no. 1, thank you, Johann Sebastian Bach

Sherlock: But then how did you …?

And then Jim explains his entire plan how he broke in several important buildings at once. It’s not the only time in that conversation where Sherlock acts like the “dumber one” of both, of course not too bluntly so Jim doesn’t realize what’s going on.

Why does Sherlock act like he’s lost and hasn’t figured out Jim’s entire plan? So he can record what Jim is saying (in sense of a confession) on his phone, which he has in his hand/coat sleeve.

When you watch the scene again, Sherlock steps to the edge of the roof, till to that point he was acting. Then he starts laughing, cause he feels like he has won. The most important parts he probably has recorded. So he steps back down again. Now he’s back to his “normal self”. I feel like you can see it in his attitude even (comparing 2nd screenshot with 3rd)

Later, when he’s on the phone with John, Sherlock says: “This is my note.”

Before he jumps of the building, he throws the phone away, to leave it on the roof.

Hmm, these are my thoughts to the scene so far.

EVERYONE READ THIS THIS IS AMAZING AND SO PERFECT.

READ

JUST READ IT OKAY?

… And a while ago I had the idea that the phone held more information and could possibly be the actual ‘note’ Sherlock was referring to… now an actual theory came up. OwO

Okay, as promised, the big clue in Reichenbach Fall to which Moffat alluded.
It’s there. Look at it. Rather, don’t look at it because it’s not there. Do you see?
Suicide. Suicide! That proves tha-… you don’t see it, do you? Okay, let’s back up.
This is The Sun. The media’s been hounding Holmes for a while now. Moriarty set up a story where Sherlock would be shamed, humiliated and killed. True to this plan, Sherlock commits “suicide”. But here’s the thing. He commits suicide on the same roof on which Moriarty killed himself. To any basic person walking onto the scene, they would see the body of Holmes and the shot body of Richard Brook, his hired actor.
Read the headline again. Suicide of Fake Genius. Not “Murder-suicide”. Not “Holmes kills Brook and then self”. Nothing. No reference to a second dead body. Not one. Why would they skip that? Why would they skip the chance to say Sherlock and his unwilling cohort died on the same roof at the same time?
Think back to Watson, to Hudson, and to everyone else. No one mentions Moriarty. None of them know at all. No one talking about Moriarty, no one discussing it, nothing. There’s only one logical conclusion here: No one knows he’s dead. Why would no one know he’s dead? Because he wasn’t there. Why would there be no body? Because it was moved.
Barring the idea that a henchperson carried away his body, Moriarty is still alive.
The missing clue isn’t how Sherlock lived. It’s that they both lived. See you in Series 3.

Yes, because one pity kiss is gonna make it all better and increase her feelings of self-worth by 300 percent.

Oh, I thought it was like his ~Christmas present~ to her, not a magic fix? Just an affection gesture and an apology. I DUNNO. His voice when he says “I am sorry. Forgive me” though asl;dkfja;lfjljk;lk;’tfgyhg

Okay, here’s the thing with me and this scene.  I have a theory about it.  Yes, Tumblr friends…I HAVE A THEORY.  And no, it is not bunnies.  Or midgets.

I think that when Sherlock was deducing Molly’s present, he was actually trying to be nice.  He was borking it up egregiously, to be sure, but that was his intent.

When the scene begins he is playing the violin, Christmas music, a concession on his part to the occasion, which he must find tiresome.  He acts petulant about John’s girlfriend (insert whatever jealousy-related motive you prefer here).  When Molly enters, he does that uncomfortable “everyone’s greeting each other” fake laugh thing and immediately retreats to the laptop.  I think he felt out of place amidst all the easy camaraderie, the people who have…friends, and know how to act around them.  He doesn’t know these things, or at least he’s not comfortable with them.

So when he sees Molly’s gift and instantly thinks that it’s for her new boyfriend, he thinks, hey.  This might be an opportunity to use the thing I am good at…my deducin’ skillz…to do that “friends tease and chatter” thing that everyone else seems to somehow know how to do that I don’t.  His tone and manner while he explains his deduction are markedly different than his usual Deducin’ Tone.  He’s being almost…playful about it.  The fact that some of his remarks are hurtful (like about her mouth and breasts) wouldn’t really occur to him; they’re just facts.  He’s sort of smiling and bobbing around and saying “lurrrrrrve” like he’s doing a bad imitation of the good-natured ribbing that he’s probably seen John do with other people, and which he’s been the target of himself.  But he’s too socially tone-deaf to realize that it’s a bit not good.  And of course when he sees the card he realizes his mistake.  That’s why he apologizes.  Because he was, for once in his life, attempting to actually engage with people.  Perhaps he was glad Molly had found a new boyfriend and wanted to obliquely let her know.  So when it backfires so spectacularly, it throws him.

He’s a genius, and he can emulate just about any human behavior he sees, but he can’t manage to tease a friend without hurting her feelings.

Anyway, that’s my theory.  Or perhaps he was just being a ginormous douchecanoe.

I’m so glad I’m not the only one who thought this.

It’s kind of like the scene where he tries to tell Molly Jim is gay - he saw it as a kind thing to do.

he’s not stupid, guys — the comment about the size of her breasts is something he would KNOW would hurt a woman? it’s like competition to women, boobs, he would know that of all people. women walk around flaunting their chests to gain the attention of a man, he’s sherlock holmes, he would pick up on that being something females are insecure about. he’s insulting her femininity. he was doing that to insult her and make it known he’s aware she has a man. when he picked it up, he realized it was for him and knew he was being selfish and ungrateful, disappointed everyone and kind of embarrassed himself. so he apologized and kissed her as a christmas present; when he could have just been his old feeling-less self and laughed it off, he was smart about it.

the sherlock fandom often forgets he’s a genius. he’s not stupid, and picks up on everything people are sensitive about. you have to remember that. the fandom tends to turn him into a sensitive, hurt, crying like emotional ball who just wants friends. watch series 1 again and remember he’s a sociopath. sure, he has more feelings than he did series 1, but he’s not a kid and he’s still a genius. he doesn’t want friends, he only needs one. everyone else is too stupid and fake for him. john at least doesn’t put up a mask like the rest of civilization and that’s why he can stand him, john’s real with him and doesn’t give a fuck. he’s not intimidated by sherlock either which is why he’s so attached.
